Taiwan Live Poker History

Taiwan Poker History

The Ola Poker Tour is coming to Taiwan in December 2025! Learn key information about the history of live poker in Taiwan ahead of the event at the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei City.

LIVE POKER IN TAIWAN

In December 2025, Ola Poker Tour will be the latest event brand offering fun, community-based, live poker tournament experiences for the Asian poker community.

Since 2018, Taiwan has seen a consistent live poker tournament schedule with brands such as AJPC (All Japan Poker Champs), PPPoker, APT (Asian Poker Tour), TMT, APL (Asian Poker League), APPT (Asian Pacific Poker Tour), WPT (World Poker Tour), GPI (Global Poker Index), USOP (U Series of Poker), RDPT (Red Dragon Poker Tour), and Zodiac Series of Poker, all hosting events.

At the recent WPT Prime Taiwan event, also hosted at the Asia Poker Arena, over 50 poker tournament champions were crowned with winners from Taiwan, Canada, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, France, the United States, Thailand, Australia, Macau, the Philippines, and Singapore.

Taiwan live poker events often also offer a unique ‘time-limited’ tournament format to add to the fun. These single table SNG format games have a 30 minute late registration period. Each player begins with the same starting chip stack amount. Rebuys are allowed if a player drops below 100BB. The top three players will be awarded a prize, with the winning earning 50% of the prize pool.

TAIWAN PLAYER RECORDS

Taiwan has over 12,000 players registered on the live poker tournament database, The Hendon Mob, and as of September 2025, has 19 players who have earned over US$1 million.

The top five players on the list are Justin Chi Jen Chu, Hui Chen Kuo, Joanne Liu, Pete Yen Han Chen, and the standout leader, James Chen, with over $11M.

TAIWAN WSOP BRACELETS

Taiwan has won five WSOP gold bracelets, with Pete Chen having won two, and James Chen, Carlos Cheng, and Ching Da Wu all having one to their name.
