Ola Poker Tour Main Event Day 2 Recap

With the returning Ola Poker Tour Main Event players all confirmed to bank at least a €450 prize, there was to be no bubble sweat, and instead all eyes were firmly set on advancing to Day 3 for a shot at the €62,000 first-place prize.

LIKE BOSS 04‘, ‘AbRAcAdAbRA‘ and Romania’s Florin Bilan began the action as the top three chip counts having all turned their 50,000 Day 1 starting stack into over 1M chips. But it was to be only Bilan who survived again, with ”LIKE BOSS 04′ eliminated in 86th place and ‘AbRAcAdAbRA’ departed in 54th. Bilan, who showed off his poker skills on the Ola Poker Tour Main Event Day 2 Live Stream, will return to action on Day 3 aiming for his second OLA champion’s trophy of the week having won the OLA Saturday Night Tournament.

Day 1D chip leader Matej Holecko will also return after increasing his 971,000 chips to 3,085,000.

MR. Karotte‘ started Day 2 with a middle of the pack 277,000, but with the help of an epic river card in one hand, he ended the action on an impressive 7,905,000. With around 60 players remaining, ‘MR. Karotte’ was all in from the Button holding 9h 9d having been called by two opponents. It was a bad situation for the all-in player as ‘Kings of Kings‘ revealed Qc Qd and the third player in the hand flipped over As Ac.

The Qh Jh 9c flop gave two players a set with ‘MR. Karotte’ holding the only backdoor flush draw. The Th turn card bought about a huge amount of tension for all three players and when the 3h appeared on the river, ‘MR. Karotte’ jumped from his seat in celebration after securing a triple up with the runner-runner flush.

On the streamed feature table, three members of the Ola Team Battle were in action, with Sebastian Kotowicz of Team SWiP, ‘Matkalumana’ from Legendary Player PlusEV, and Dave Burns of Team British Poker Series (pictured below).

Burns was playing a patient game, waiting for ideal opportunities to put his short stack into the middle. Firstly he secured a double up courtesy of A-K vs A-T, and then had to make do with a chop pot. Andrezj Porchak raised to 2.2BB from Early Position with 6h 6d, and Burns moved all in for 7BB with Ad Kc from the Cutoff. ‘Sancho’ looked down at Ah Kh from the Big Blind with 9BB and moved all in, and Porchak decided to fold. There was no drama on the board and the two players chopped the pot with Big Slick.

Burns continued to be patient but the cards alluded him. Ultimately with 5BB left, the Team BPS member moved all in under the gun with Qh 4h, which Kotowicz called in the next seat with Ah Qd. Alex Metz looked down at As Kd and moved all in for 30BB, which got Kotowicz to fold. The board fell 9d 6h 2s 9s 6s and Burns’ efforts ended in 30th place.

In one of the biggest pots of the tournament so far, ‘SMRTAK’ raised 2BB from Under the Gun with Ah 9h and LUPO called with Qs Qd off his 25BB stack. Metz called from the Hijack with Ks Qc and Kotowicz completed in the Big Blind with As Jd.

‘SMRTAK’ bet 33% pot on the 6d 6h 2h flop with the nut flush draw and ‘LUPO’ moved all in for 23BB before the other two players folded. ‘SMRTAK’, with 46BB behind, asked for the count and considered his options for a minute before he called.

With 5.5M in the pot it was one of the biggest of Day 2, and the turn card bought the drama Ac to put ‘SMRTAK’ into the lead. ‘LUPO’s fate was sealed on the 6s river, as ‘SMRTAK’ propelled up the chip rankings.
